Summer in NYC by Aine O’Neill

Even writing the first few words give me goosebumps. I couldn’t recommend New York City enough for an enjoyable and unforgettable summer. There is so much to do and see in the city that never sleeps -you’ll believe that saying when you experience it for yourself!

However, my summer in NYC would not have been possible without the help of J1Accom.  After weeks of searching for reasonable accommodation online for a gang of Irish students who had never been to NYC before, we joined a Facebook group called J1 Accom.com  and Paul McCabe(owner) put us out of our misery and saved us both the hassle and stress of sorting accommodation from across the ocean.

We were given exceptional accommodation facilities on the LIU campus in downtown Brooklyn which was one of the best experiences of my life.  You stay in an American University dorm with bedding and kitchen facilities, washing facilities and a common room all under the one roof it seems too good to be true but it is and it is worth it for both comfort and safety.

The subway station brings anywhere in NYC and better still it’s outside the door of you accommodation on Hoyt Street. Not only that but there are several clothes shops and department stores, food outlets and restaurants right outside your door along the entertaining and beautiful downtown Brooklyn. H&M is like Penny’s for the Irish over there and it’s across the road from the accommodation.

The best thing about J1Accom is there there are no worries about paying rent during the week as it is paid before you leave for a summer of a lifetime.

The LIU building itself has fantastic 24/7 security who ensure a safe and enjoyable stay.

Not forgetting you are staying with 100 other Irish people in the same building – without a doubt it’s great craic.

It’s like being at home but even better because your in NYC!

On that note, If you enjoy a good night out Patrick Greene is your main man. He will sort you out with VIP treatment within a range of nightclubs in nyc and you are guaranteed a night to remember – or not.

Patrick will contact you about the latest events and make sure you’re on the guest-list. The support and facilities offered to Irish students in

NYC is fantastic. Brooklyn is an ideal location for a j1ers as you are so close to the biggest attractions and you get to see and do things you have always wanted to do. everyday is different. I am hoping to go back to Brooklyn this summer on a holiday because I enjoyed it that much. My uncle lives in the upper east side and I got to see him everyday because

I was so close to the subway station it only take 10-15 mins to get to Manhattan to see all you need in NYC. The Brooklyn bridge is close to the accommodation and is a great spot for your next profile picture!

If you are thinking of Brooklyn for your J1 destination take the advice from someone who has been there and Go! Highly recommend and don’t go breaking your back looking for accommodation and get onto J1 Accom – it’s does exactly what it says on the tin – hassle free and you will enjoy a summer of a lifetime!
