At the same time, you’re probably a bit nervous. This may be their first time abroad on their own or away from home for such a long time. While it may be character building, you don’t want them to struggle to find accommodation or get scammed by a rogue landlord.
We learned from our own experiences
I know how you feel because I was a J1 student in the past and my dad had to bail me out when we got scammed by a bogus landlord. It was our own fault really but it opened our eyes to the ways of the world and we swore it wouldn’t happen to us again.
