What is the J1 – Summer Work Travel

The most popular J-1 Visa issued in Ireland is the J-1 Summer Work Travel Program. This program provides students with an opportunity to live and work in the United States during their summer vacation from college or university and to share their culture and ideas with people in the United States through temporary work and travel experiences.  The type of jobs they may work in are restricted to summer seasonal jobs.

Will I be able to get to work easily from this area?

All of our buildings are located in prime central areas. All of them are used by students in the college year, so they are well equipped with public transport on your doorstep too and from the main destinations where J1ers typically work.

There are many public transport options right on your doorstep including buses, trams and subways.

We suggest you take the address of your workplace and our building and use google maps to see how far your commute would be.

Are there any costs not included in the rent?

All utility bills and associated costs (taxes, garbage, water, and electricity, wifi, bed linens) are included in your fee, no hidden fees.   J1Accom’s management fee is €150 per person and is already built into the price plan provided.

What facilities are available?

All your needs are met onsite, from internet access to laundry facilities. So when you land stateside, everything you need is there for you; you don’t have to worry about a thing. If you book through J1Accom, you are giving yourself the perfect launch pad in the heart of your new city.

All residence areas offer free wireless and cable, study lounges, recreation rooms, TV lounges, laundry rooms, 24 hours/day security officers and dedicated professional staff. All residential spaces come with an extra long twin sized bed, desk, desk chair, dresser, wardrobe unit/closet and AC.

Is the accommodation furnished?

Yes, we even supply towels and bedsheets. So that when you arrive, your apartment is ready to live in. With the full building reserved for all Irish J1 students, living on-campus comes with so much more than just a room. All residence areas include free Wi-Fi and cable, TV lounges, laundry rooms, round-the-clock security and dedicated professional staff to help you out.

How much will I need to pay in advance?

The fee for each city can be different. We require you to sign up to a minimum of 70 nights typically, if you wish to extend past this then great. Our charge is usually €28.50 per night in New York, Chicago and Berkeley. All of our accommodation will have slightly different dates on when is the earliest and latest you can check-in and out.

€250 security deposit on top of that which is fully refundable at the end of the summer.
